Ranked English Word List

This is a list of 20,000 English words which features a frequency rank. The first 5,000 are ranked by number. The words above 5,000 are ranked in groups (e.g. 6,000+). The rankings are based on the Corpus of Contemporary American English and are used with permission. So the wordlist is free, except that any work based on it should give credit to COCA (http://www.americancorpus.org/). The purpose of this project is to provide a template for an English-vernacular dictionary or a multi-lingual glossary.
